Slack Connect: All About The Business Communication Tool You Need To Know

Slack Connect will allow you to talk to members outside of your workspace.

If you use slack in your organisation, you’re already familiar with how it functions. Essentially an instant messaging service, Slack enables workers within the same company and/or team to communicate and share files for collaboration without ever leaving the application.

But while Slack has been used for communications within said companies and teams, the Slack connect service allows you to talk to members such as vendors, clients and customers who would usually use another form of communication such as emails and other messaging tools.

The Slack Connect service is available within the app itself, whether you’re using the browser or the desktop app. However, you have to remember you need to have a paid subscription to use the channel feature with the service.

To get started locate and click the Slack Connect button on the sidebar. This will give you a brief rundown of the service after which you can choose to either direct message a person or create a channel. With the direct message option all you need to do is enter the person’s email ID and send them the invite. This is the free service.

The channel on the other hand is just like creating a channel for your own team with the addition of clicking the share outside workspace’ checkbox. After that, again invite the person to join slack by adding their email ID.

The advantage of using Slack Connect is that whatever you share with the other members on your workspace channel will remain in your channel. This also allows you to easily locate files and documents related to those teams instead of sorting through hundreds or even thousands of unorganised emails.

With more and more companies turning towards Slack for their communications needs, the app has been going through several updates to become more and more relevant. The new Connect feature, too, is a step towards bringing the entire workspace into one ecosystem.
