Latin America-Focused Legal Consultancy Hires Former Baker McKenzie Business Development

Gericó Associates, a Madrid-based marketing and business development consultancy for law firms operating in Europe and Latin America, has hired a former Baker McKenzie professional to head its business development team.

Andrés Vanegas joins as a partner based in Colombia and is expected to travel frequently across Latin America and Europe.

Gericó, which has advised legal clients on global strategy and business units for more than a decade, has offices in Spain, Chile, Colombia, Mexico and Peru.

The firm collaborates with multinational firms that work in Latin America, such as Baker McKenzie, DLA Piper, CMS and Ontier, as well as with firms from the region, such as Ecuador’s CorralRosales and Argentina’s Beccar Varela.

Gericó managing partner Marc Gericó said the hire will reinforce the firm’s ability to offer strategic advice to law firms operating in the Spanish-speaking world.

“With this incorporation, we reaffirm our commitment to continue promoting the business-oriented strategic consulting of the firms we work with,” Gericó said in a statement.

Vanegas worked as a senior executive focused on Latin America business development and marketing for Baker McKenzie for nearly three years, until February 2020, according to his LinkedIn profile. He worked for the past two years at ClarkeModet, an intellectual property firm that works in Spanish- and Portuguese-speaking countries around the world.

Vanegas said he decided to join the firm largely because of the appeal of joining consultants with experience at multiple large law firms. He said he has known Gericó and his team for years, having seen them work from the client’s point of view.

“[They are] a team that stands out for a deep knowledge of the particularities of the legal services sector and marked by rigor and a strategic outlook,” he added.
