Coronavirus Omicron cases in India, COVID-19 vaccine registrations Dec 12 LIVE: The threats of the new Omicron variant of coronavirus, still looms large as India added another case to the tally but on the brighter side also witnessed its first recovery in Maharsahtra. Moreover, fifteen people infected with the Omicron variant of the coronavirus in India have now tested negative for Sars-CoV-2, and were discharged from government hospitals in Rajasthan and Maharashtra on Friday, health officials in the two states said.

A 35-year-old man with travel history to Zimbabwe and South Africa has tested positive for Omicron, becoming the second patient of the new COVID-19 variant in Delhi, sources said on Saturday. He is admitted at the LNJP Hospital and only has weakness, they added. He returned to India from Zimbabwe and had even travelled to South Africa, the sources said, adding that he is fully vaccinated.

With 7,774 people testing positive for coronavirus infection in last 24 hours India’s COVID-19 tally climbed to 3,46,90,510. The number of active cases declined to 92,281, lowest in 560 days, while death count mounted to 4,75,434 with the addition of 306 new fatalities, according to the Union Health Ministry data updated at 8 am.

The number of people who tested Covid-19 positive on arrival from overseas, including from from “at-risk” and “non-risk” countries to Tamil Nadu till date have tested positive for the Delta variant.

Omicron: Strict curbs imposed in Maharashtra

The Maharashtra state government banned large gatherings and imposed other restrictions within Mumbai. The state has the highest cases with the new SARS-CoV-2 ‘variant of concern’ in the country till date.

The new restrictions within the commissionerate limits bans rallies or protest marches involving a gathering of people and vehicles over the next two days. The Deputy Commissioner of Police Operations) informed PTI that the restrictions will be in force for 48 hours i.e over the weekend to ‘prevent danger to human life from new variant’ as well as to ensure there is no breach in law and order “against the backdrop of violence that took place in Amravati, Malegaon and Nanded” he said.
