Hull-headquartered Sewell Group has maintained its Three-Star accreditation in the UK Best Companies survey, which sees it classified as a ‘World Class’ business to work for.
It is the group’s ninth accreditation in the prestigious list – set to be published in the new year – recognising the highest standard of workplace engagement.
The ranking is the highest score a company can get, with the results the strongest in a decade. It comes in a year that saw the construction, built environment and retail specialist receive the Queen’s Award for Enterprise for Promoting Opportunity and the Hull Live Business Award for Diversity and Inclusion.

Sewell’s head of people, Becky Oughtibridge, was delighted with The Sunday Times recognition.
She said: “We’re proud to be part of the collection of businesses that have earned the right to hold a Best Companies 3-Star accreditation. The survey is wholly anonymous, and we can’t influence the data that creates this score. Our people have achieved this for us and continue to be a driver of our culture and engagement across our group.
“During our nine Best Companies surveys we have selected to be reviewed as part of The Sunday Times Top 100 List six times, and are proud to have been successful every time. This cements the great things we do to support, engage, and develop our people, and what they give back to us to allow us to be a great place to work, so we can be a great and innovative company to deal with.
“We have never taken the happiness of our people for granted and continue to utilise the feedback from every survey to look for business and engagement improvements year on year.”

Staff across the business were asked for their opinions in the independent Best Companies questionnaire focused on their manager and team, personal growth wellbeing, giving something back, leadership, the company as a whole and fair deal for employees, with the results showing they feel happy, engaged, and recognised for their efforts.
This feedback then helps to shape a Best Companies index score which determines a company’s accreditation level and position in the Top 100, which will be revealed in 2022.
A total of 72 per cent of Sewell Group staff completed the survey, with the business pledging to donate to the Plant a Tree Today Foundation for every survey completed, raising – total of £1,500 to fund new beehives and saplings across the region.
