New data reveals Netflix engineering salaries for jobs in the US in 2021

‘s marriage of tech and entertainment makes it an attractive company to work for.

The company’s idiosyncratic work culture that prides itself on open feedback, eschews performance-based bonuses, and doesn’t shy away from firings, isn’t forever everybody. But the streamer has ranked in surveys of US tech workers among the employers with the happiest staffs and the among most desirable companies to work for.

Netflix, which was founded in Los Gatos, California, and now has hubs in Hollywood and around the world, is currently hiring for engineers in a range of different roles. Its jobs board lists nearly 70 software engineer openings, as well as listings for other related roles such as data or analytics engineers.

To see what Netflix pays staff engineers, Insider analyzed public data. The data, released by the US Department of Labor’s Office of Foreign Labor Certification, shows how much Netflix offered to pay foreign staffers it sought to hire in the US for certain jobs, including various engineering roles.

Insides reviewed wage data from 325 foreign-labor-certification applications that were submitted by Netflix and certified between October 1, 2019 and September 30, 2021. Roughly 200 of those applications were for engineering-related roles.

Netflix offered staffers on US work visas in engineering roles annual base salaries between $142,979 and $850,000 per year, based on the data.

These wages are the minimums that Netflix declared in foreign-labor-certification applications that it would pay specific workers, and the company could have paid more than the amounts reflected in this data.
